People on makeup artist courses will probably be doing all they can to learn the tricks of the trade and may often look to celebrities for inspiration when coming up with new creations.
However, if they want a lesson in how not to apply blusher, they could check out recent pictures of Lindsay Lohan.
Attending a court appearance this week, the Daily Mail noted that she had used a dark colour on her cheeks that appeared too strong for her pale complexion.
Speaking to the newspaper, celebrity makeup artist Rachel Wood said the application had been too "heavy handed".
She explained that although the contoured brush look is currently in vogue, it must be introduced to the skin delicately.
"When contouring a blush for your cheeks, it can be like Spanx for your face - sleek, lifting and very slimming," Ms Wood stated.
However, the expert added Lohan's colour looked "dirty, not fresh".
One person who rarely puts a foot wrong with her makeup application is Kate Moss and she recently told the Sunday Times that liquid foundation helps to hide an uneven skintone.
