If make-up artists are looking for ways to bring their clients seamlessly from summer into autumn, they may want to try the fresh 40s beauty look. Fashion expert Harriet Walker wrote for the Independent that lots of beauty trends have reared their heads on the runways alongside the clothes and this is one of them. She said that the style is all about flawless complexions, red lips and hair parted at the side, as seen at Sonia Rykiel and Diane Von Furstenberg. However, she pointed out that unlike original make-up form the era, the new fresh 40s trend has been given a futuristic twist, with make-up artists leaving skin natural or glossy. Ms Walker also wrote that the look was more based on land girls than "powdered grandees". "Skin needs nothing more than a layer of Topshop's powder foundation, for an even and matte finish, and an oh-so-light dusting of blush in rose pink," she added. Make-up artists looking for 40s icons to base clients’ looks around may also want to focus on Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth or Lauren Bacall.
