A dedicated menswear fashion week could be hitting the New York catwalks in the near future, according to experts in the industry.
Currently, only a small section is set aside for male clothing at the biannual New York Fashion Week, however, all that could be set to change.
Designer John Varvatos told WWD that the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been trying to figure out how to bring in a specialised men's week for the past ten years.
"If we're going to try it, we have a better shot today than ever before, because we have a bigger design contingent. The reality for us is the men's market opens in Milan the week of June 20th, and the New York shows aren't until September," he added.
Another designer, Robert Geller, agreed, commenting that the first two days of fashion week should be set aside for men's clothing and promoted as a separate event.
The next New York Fashion Week will take place from September 9th to 16th, featuring some of the best spring and summer styles.
