Thinning hair is a problem many women face and professional hair stylists attempt to disguise, but according to an expert, there are always certain cuts that should be avoided.
A variety of factors can cause hair to thin, such as anaemia, eating disorders and stress, but recent studies conducted by Unilever scientists has revealed emotional stress is not a major factor in turning women's hair grey.
Alison Druce, hair expert at leading hair and beauty salon group Saks, said that despite what many think, it is possible to disguise thinning hair with certain styles, products and a certain amount of know-how.
"Bobs are a good option for thin hair. Keep it one length, and blunt. Also going a shade darker adds the illusion of more hair. Avoid very short and overly layered haircuts," she said.
She suggested to professional hair stylists, that they also look to volumising products, with Guts from Redken and tec.ni art's Volume Architect standing out, as they both create a feeling of more hair and can be reapplied on the second day to add more texture.
