Professional make-up artist goes punk for The Runways
Professional make-up artist goes punk for The Runways Professional make-up artist Robin Mathews did plenty of research prior to working on soon-to-be-released film The Runways so that she could get the Joan Jett and Cherie Currie look just right.

The film follows the all-girl band, with Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning playing Jett and Currie, the most famous members of the Runways.

Ms Mathews told the LA Times that she studied thousands of photos and video footage of the band, plus makeup ads from the 70s to make sure she didn't miss a single detail.

Punk rock was just beginning at the time, so heavy black eyeliner and hair were the trend, followed by the stripy blush and glitter of the 80s.

The professional make-up artist wanted to keep the actresses looking true to life, rather than giving them the glossed-over Hollywood finish.

She told the newspaper: "The Runaways were teenagers, so if we needed to add blemishes or to make them look like they had been out on the road, we did that. It wasn't always dewy, beautiful skin. It was all about the eyes."

This month's Oscars saw professional make-up artists out in force, with plenty favouring the classic Hollywood look for the A-listers.
