Professional make-up artists: How to do statement lips
Professional make-up artists: How to do statement lips Jill McKay has offered tips to professional make-up artists on how to achieve this season's statement lips.

The New York-based make-up artist said: "Statement lips can create a high impact but it has to be carefully applied. The colour really depends on the undertones of the skin."

Ms McKay advised those with paler skin to go for cool-toned shades of lipstick, such as red, violet or pink, which have blue or red undertones.

Professional make-up artists should use warm-toned lip colours such as corals, browns, reddish browns and orangey reds on clients with darker skin.

Dita von Teese, as well as Gossip Girls Blake Lively and Leighton Meester have recently gone for dramatic statement lips. Models at London Fashion Week shows, such as Twenty8Twelve, have also tried the look.

They have been popular for far longer though, with Marilyn Monroe being pictured wearing cool-toned red shades to match her pale skin in the 50s.ADNFCR-2992-ID-800096842-ADNFCR
