Professional make up artists: Prepare for a blast from the past
Professional make up artists: Prepare for a blast from the past Professional make up artists should be stocking up on scarlet lipstick and sharpening their black eyeliner, as vintage styles are truly back in fashion.

From the sultry secretaries of Mad Men, to the 1920s flapper girls of Boardwalk Empire, designers are being inspired by the past – and members of the public are certainly buying in.

Xandria Carelse, co-founder of Lost in Vintage, said in the past couple of years vintage fairs have really taken off and this has been helped along by the emergence of retro fashions in popular culture.

"We are seeing a lot of batwing designs at the moment and tops from the 80s are particularly fashionable," she added.

Vogue, meanwhile, identified the 1960s and 40s as eras set to receive a modern make over in its recent A to Z trend report for autumn/winter 2011.

Professional make up artists styling the models for the vintage collections used dramatic lips in sultry shades of red and plum.
